For new students & class descriptions

Welcome to Gen-Nih, Sacramento's only yoga studio with exclusively Iyengar-certified yoga instructors or Iyengar teachers-in-training.

Class Descriptions:
  • Introductory - Introducing the Iyengar method to the beginning student.

  • Level 1 - This is a Continuing Beginners class. The depth of method is introduced in standing, sitting,
    forward extensions, inversions, twists, preliminary back extensions and restorative postures.

  • Level 2 - A deeper study of the standing and all basic postures is taught.  Shoulderstand and head balance
    are taught.  Builds stamina and alignment

  • Level 3 - Advanced beginners, seasoned and serious students.  Introduces intermediate poses.  Builds
    stamina, alignment and refines inversions.

  • Pranayama is taught after the student has practiced for two years.

General guidelines if you are visiting us for the first time:
  • Please arrive 10 to 15 minutes before class begins
  • Please come with an empty stomach; do not eat 3 hours before class
  • Wear clothing where knees can be seen: shorts, leggings, or pants that can be rolled up.
